STYLE GURU STYLE: Go Army

Let your New Year start off right with Rebecca Minkoff’s latest fashion show and effortlessly cool look. The utilitarian trend is still going strong, but the flair she throws into the mix takes it to the next level for 2015. She wasn’t afraid to explore the military style in its varying forms: from classic to edgy to contemporary, highlighting the clean lines, studded details and luxurious materials. Minkoff focuses on the quintessential cool-girl jacket and keeps the main color palette a rich, olive green. One key piece that caught my eye is a classic style jacket (olive green, of course) that zips in half, transforming into a modern, boxy look. This label understands what we want.

Who can resist the lethal combination of a surplus-style jacket and a sleek black, leather skirt? Anyone? Anyone? Definitely not me since I find it to be a delicious combo. In order to embody the military vibes from Minkoff’s show, I let my olive green utilitarian jacket be the statement by pairing it with a basic, gray T-shirt and then casually rolled the sleeves. Continuing the look, I slipped into my AllSaints skirt to add an undeniable edge. Enter the shoes: a pair of boots with three buckles to match the eye-catching allure of Minkoff’s fashion show. To go along with the tarnished gold details on my jacket and boots, I slung my gold purse over my shoulder. I then threw on a chunky bracelet and layered necklaces as finishing touches to bring the look home. I am so relieved that the utilitarian style jacket refuses to retire and continues to inspire our wardrobes and attitudes.

Get My Look: 1. A utilitarian-style jacket. 2. The perfect leather skirt. 3. Dramatic shoe.
