STYLE GURU STYLE: Give Me Leather, or Give Me Death

Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski recently became the first female designer for Hermès in two decades and made her debut back in March of 2015.  I fell in love with her ready-to-wear fall 2015 line which featured dark hues, turtlenecks and an abundance of leather. The brand was originally equestrian inspired which carried over into this bold, structured line. Vanhee-Cybulski stayed true to the ever so chic Hermès brand identity while adding an imperceptible feminine touch of her own.

This collection was the perfect inspiration for my winter look. Hermès is known for its high-quality garments and, of course, those high quality prices.  Since we are “college” Fashionistas here, these pieces may be a tad out of our price range.  But fear not, nailing a fabulous Hermès-inspired winter look doesn’t require you to break the bank.

Just as leather was a staple in the 2015 line, it is also a staple in my closet. Vanhee-Cybulski’s sophisticated and chic designs perfectly sum up my affinity for leather.  This leather mini skirt is such a fun piece that can be paired with a simple top to give an outfit effortless edge.  A rad, cost-efficient alternative to genuine leather is pleather: God’s gift to Fashionistas on a budget.

Turtlenecks and high-collars were abundant in the Hermès collection and are perfect for staying warm in the winter. I loved the detailed buttons on this turtleneck which added interest to an otherwise plain top.  A turtleneck also has the potential to be a bargain buy because it’s a vintage trend and therefore, super easy to thrift for.

For added warmth, I threw on a pair of black opaque tights and a cozy, oversized cardigan.  I also went with a dark lipstick and added a pair of iridescent earrings which were a fun contrast with the dark tones present throughout the look. Since the turtleneck and the skirt are such simple pieces, I finished the outfit with a pair of patent leather, cutout booties, because why not throw in some more leather?  These shoes are so comfortable and lend more of a grungy vibe to the look.

So there you have it folks: a sophisticated, chic and edgy look that won’t break the bank. Hermès’s ready to wear 2015 fall collection is #goals, and you can be too for a price that doesn’t resemble your tuition.

Get My Look: 1. Dark turtleneck.  2. Leather skirt.  3. Some killer booties. 4. Cozy cardigan.
