STYLE GURU STYLE: Girly Gingham

Any Fashionista who follows the trending styles and fashions knows that this spring and summer alike, it was all about the girly gingham style. This charming, all-American print was seen in baby blues, blacks and even bright corals this season. From mini skirts, to baby-doll dresses to crop tops, all designers were experimenting on how to resurrect the old classic and revamp it for the modern age and the coming youth. One designer who impressed, as always, with her reinvention of the gingham print was Princess Diane von Furstenberg herself in her spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Supermodels (like Kendall and Candice to namedrop a few) strutted the runway in playful, picnic-ready skirts and dresses. Flirtatious and fun frocks created from gingham filled the runway, all perfect for a day in Central Park or St. Tropez. In my opinion, these looks were right down the alley of the powerful women behind the creations.

As for my look? You could say my shirt is a picnic blanket transformed into a cropped top. I mean, it doesn’t get much more all-American gingham than this. I toned down the bright blue and white ensemble with a pair of high-wasted white shorts, a muted purse and silver sandals. My ensemble was similar to DVF’s runway creations in the fact that it is a take on an update of the  French Riviera style of the ’50s. What makes my look a bit different than the trends in the DVF collection is the hair and makeup. The DVF girls kept it simple with beachy, effortless hair and a nude lip. I went for a bolder approach with a pop of red on the lips and a high pony.

Get My Look: 1. Gingham print top. 2. White shorts. 3. Sam Edelman sandals.
