STYLE GURU STYLE: Girl on Fire

At some point most girls have the same dream. We dream of walking through a long foyer, maybe in a castle or a ballroom, in an exquisite dress that flows like fire as you walk. Perhaps we’re picturing all of our enemies staring in awe as we walk or we’re simply walking all alone. Nevertheless we dream of feeling absolutely powerful in a gown just made for us.

I attempted to capture just some of this feeling, which I felt overwhelmed by after looking at Zuhair Murad’s fall 2016 couture collection. I fell in love with look 24, and immediately knew I had to try and recreate it. Murad’s collection is the epitome of all things grace, fantasy and wanderlust. A review of the collection described his collection as a “flamboyant parade of velvet, crepe, tulle and chiffon dresses,” which basically describes my dream closet. Murad used a palette of blacks to plums to lavender, which really captures the essence of the upcoming fall season.

In order to bring this fantasy dress into my own personal style, I started off with a simple black maxi dress. This dress is perfect to wear by itself as an evening gown, or you can dress it up and accessorize it however you like. My long, lavender crepe kimono is what brought the “showstopping” effect that Murad brought to his collection. With a tie at the waist, it forms to your body to give you a flattering silhouette. As I walked, the kimono swayed perfectly in motion much like I imagined my long walk down a long foyer would be.
