STYLE GURU STYLE: Geometry

M Missoni resort 2015 collection already has me making plans for post-internship travels. Students have anywhere between one and three weeks of vacation time before school resumes. That makes it the perfect time to travel! This collection puts traveling to the Caribbean right at the top of my list. Inspired by the reggae culture, the collection makes great use of the colors of the Jamaican flag. These colors are even woven into the tiniest detail. Furthermore, the model complemented the look with raffia-soled Vans. The finished product is very touristy and comfortable but nice—something that is perfect for a day of strolling through the city. With all the bright colors, shapes and zigzag lines, you’re sure to stand out while blending in with the locals.

While I don’t have any reggae-inspired clothing, I have a deep love of afro-centric print. Being African, it is only imperative that I own many pieces of such clothing. So in my look, I’m wearing a red midi dress with big geometric print. This is actually one of the items in my ‘thrifted’ collection–one of my most priced ones too. It is comfortable and light, and this makes it great for the summer. To complete the look, I have on a pair of original espadrilles which I recently purchased on my visit to the French Basque Region.

While this look seems busy, it adopts a less-is-more strategy. Whether you’re on vacation or not, summer is about less–less layers, less stress. Items with big geometrical print can help you do more with less!
