I think it’s safe to say that every college student completely dreads an early morning wake up. Whether you were out until sunrise with a group of friends or up late cramming for an exam, hearing that alarm is never an easy thing. I know when my alarm goes off, the thought of getting out of my warm and cozy bed is just awful, let alone the fact that I have to get ready and actually look presentable. As college students, most of us are just trying to get through class (and maybe learn a thing or two), but not necessarily always worried about having a stylish outfit. However, it’s a huge help when you have things that inspire you to create a great, fashionable and school-friendly outfit. As I flipped through the pages of my favorite fashion magazines like Vogue and Glamour, I was so inspired by some of our culture’s latest trends. Rebecca Minkoff’s pre-fall 2015 collection is just brilliant. Her pieces are so strong and powerful as they portray a very utilitarian look. The olive green jackets in the collection are perfectly edgy yet simply pretty. I was also totally inspired by Philipp Plein’s pre-fall 2015 collection. The different looks on the runway were so eye-catchingly fun and fierce. His collection showed different shades of lilac with a bunch of great fur vests and jackets. Being inspired by these two collections, I obviously thought, military plus a little fur!
So, I decided to put together a runway-inspired outfit that is still wearable to class (I don’t think anyone actually wants to sit through class with a huge fur jacket on). I paired a deep lilac sweater with a light quilted military jacket over it. I chose a simple pair of jeans and dark chocolate knee-high boots to make the outfit super casual for class. To add in a little fun, what else would I enhance the look with but some fur? Who doesn’t love fur?Especially during the freezing cold winter months. I thought the fur scarf brought excitement and style into the look, while still remaining casual. The scarf is definitely the statement piece of the entire outfit. It’s so unique with the different furs and knits, which definitely brings a little color to the look.
The two runway collections really inspired me to create a trendy and fun look, yet still keep it simple. This is such an easy outfit to quickly put together on those hectic mornings. It’s fashionable, casual and comfortable. Fur is always an easy way to spice up a simple outfit. And I don’t know about you, but I will definitely be on the hunt for some more edgy military pieces to hang in my closet.
