STYLE GURU STYLE: From the Runway to the Hallway

September 21st, 2016 at 2:00am

Well this is it, folks, the last warm weather posts of the semester are now among us.

September is an odd month in Kentucky, because it’s perfectly crisp in the mornings walking on campus, but the moment you walk out of your 1:00 p.m. class, it’s as if July never left. Needless to say, the backpack sweat underneath my poorly chosen long sleeve shirt is unreal.

Bodily functions aside, I’m super excited to make this post because New York FASHION WEEK just wrapped! There’s inspiration everywhere and it is fantastic. I was lucky enough to take a trip to the city in February when fall collections took the stage, and I cannot wait to go again. Some of my favorite runway looks for spring/summer 2017 were Rodarte’s combination of girly and edgy all in one, and the cool pastels in Thom Browne’s show.

In addition to the runway, the streets of New York City are especially interesting at this time of the year—everyone is breaking out their best street style hoping to turn some heads. I think street style is awesome. There are no inhibitions for these stylish NYFW goers and it is awe inducing. I couldn’t help noticing a few patterns in the dozens of snapshots I came across over the week. These Fashionistas/os in the Big Apple were sporting lots of patchworks, big t-shirts, bright colors and patterns, as well as pieces from all across the board.

For my look today, I wanted to bring some of that Fashion Week street style inspiration that would also be appropriate for the classroom. I chose an oversize graphic tee partially tucked into a burnt orange suede skirt to add a pop of color. My snakeskin pattern shoes are my absolute favorite because I can wear them with anything and they just look so cool. I added a few silver bracelets as well of a pair of trendy sunglasses (which I bought for ONE DOLLAR) to complete the look. Messy hair and minimal makeup also seemed to be Fashion Week street style staples.

Have a great September, all you fashionable people. Keep the inspiration alive!
