STYLE GURU STYLE: Freedom and Femininity

Coachella brings the bohemian, relaxed style and combines it with an effortless urban look that dominates the fashion world each year. Besides the pastel hair colors that Nicole Richie and Hilary Duff have been incorporating to the Coachella fever, celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Phoebe Tonkin and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley have taken their ready-to-wear looks after the festival and strut them on the streets. Personally, I love the bohemian-urban style! This spellbinding look can be created effortlessly throughout the summer while still keeping you comfortable. This spring, Chloé dominated the runway with this popular trend by designing dresses that are flowy and laced. Many of these festival-styled pieces had a peacock-embroidered pattern around the neckline and were made in colors that represented freedom or purity: white and other pastels. This runway show was captivating because it focused on the principles of freedom, lightness and femininity. The beige, wooden flooring gave the show warmth and an urban aura which complemented the feminine pieces that models wore down the runway.

Since this look is built upon being effortless and free, there are a variety of ways it can be created without it becoming overwhelming. The idea behind this look is to create an outfit that can be reinvented throughout the week while looking different each day by complementing it with a different accessory. Accessories should be light so that the look doesn’t become too dramatic, so I recommend choosing between a light jacket, a couple rings or a floppy hat. I always feel my personal best when I am comfortable throughout the day, so I usually will incorporate this look by choosing a embroidered lace top with high-waisted shorts or a dress. Wearing a bandeau top underneath is a must in my wardrobe because it ensures the lightness that is needed with this look.

Since I like to add an urban edge to my wardrobe, I usually pick colors that embrace earthy tones such as white, charcoal and beige. To add to this natural look, I will usually put on a pair of light-washed high-waisted shorts if I decide to go with the flowy top and add a fedora hat as a finishing touch. To ensure comfort and femininity while catching a brunch with friends or running errands, I recommend Urban Outfitters’ light-washed high-waisted shorts for this look.

The wool, gray fedora hat I purchased from Express complements the look by adding to the festivity and protecting my face from the sun. Birkenstock and gladiator sandals are in, so slipping on a pair of either will finish this festive look and keep you looking fashionable. These pieces come together to create a free-spirited, feminine look that I love to wear when I want to feel alluring and natural at the same time.

Get My Look: 1. A pair of Birkenstock’s. 2. An embroidered lace top. 3. A wool felt fedora.
