STYLE GURU STYLE: Florals? For fall? Groundbreaking.

It has been six years since Alexander McQueen sadly passed away, yet his brand is still thriving thanks to creative director, Sarah Burton. For her fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection, we see her mix feminine and masculine traits beautifully. From shimmering, delicate gowns that flow with ease, to effortless blazers that even Dana Scully of the X-Files would kill to wear. Burton’s show was a for sure stand out to me.

The show consisted of mostly neutrals with pops of color tucked into the details of Burton’s designs. Yet the stand-alone trend in this collection? Florals! Florals paired with dark colorings may remind some of the once prominent ’90s trend that has resurfaced back into our own trends today. Yet, in Burton’s collection, the models come across as beautiful goddesses almost like the ones from Botticelli’s classic painting, Primavera. The use of flowers, light materials and fun cutouts in the dresses created a dream-like feeling in the show. This is something that isn’t often felt in the usual dark tone of the fall season.

In order to make myself into a modern day flower goddess, like Flora herself, I set about creating a look that incorporated some of the themes from the show. For my look, I’m wearing a gray turtleneck sweater paired with a black blazer and a circular floral skirt. The sweater is perfect for this look, not only because of its light material, but also due to its bell shaped sleeves which instantly add an airy feel to it. I chose to contrast my plain gray sweater with my slightly loud floral skirt. The circular shape of it is perfect for the breezy, free vibe I was going for.

I then paired a black blazer along with my sweater. It helps tailor my look a bit more, and helps complete the coloring and look altogether. As for shoes I decided to go with a pair of simple black boots as I wanted my skirt to do all the talking for me. Finally, I finished the entire look with simple, glowy makeup and a fun purple lip.
