Flip flops are always looked down upon. They are constantly seen as being sloppy and unfashionable. In fact, society has made them seem to be only acceptable when you’re in the bathroom or at the beach. Otherwise, most people would not be caught wearing them in public. However, runway shows like Dior’s resort 2016 collection have proven that flip flops can, in fact, be incredibly chic.
Most sandals and flip flops are very basic. Unless you can afford to buy footwear that incorporates crystals, you will find yourself having a difficult time trying to stand out. Besides who would want to buy expensive footwear that would get soiled and ruined after only a day’s worth of walking? Dior solved this problem. This French luxury company decided to pair a basic black sandal with an outfit that made them feel and seem luxurious. They believed that if you want to maintain the chic simplicity of the shoe, then the outfit itself should be more intricate. In this case, they decided to add crystals to the top so that it would be the main focus.
I decided to incorporate this method of wearing an outfit that would stand out to take less focus on my shoes. My choice of footwear was my orange sandals. Even though it’s bright and bold color stands out, I believe that by pairing it with my blue dress, the shoes are less emphasized. People are more likely to focus on the dress because of its lace detailing. If you’re sure to pair them correctly with your outfits, flip flops and sandals can be a staple to your closet.
