STYLE GURU STYLE: Feeling Rad In Plaid

Timeless, warm, cozy and cute—what’s not to love about flannels? My collection of plaid is forever growing, so when I came across the looks presented in Madewell’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I was very excited about the incorporation of flannel and plaid prints. I tend to be more inspired by ready-to-wear collections for my own fashion because they are easier to translate into everyday outfits.

I put together this look by focusing on the staple pieces of the runway trend and then experimented with different colors and textures of said pieces. Instead of going with a classic blue jean, I decided to go for black high-waisted jeggings. This collection incorporated a lot of mixing of bold plaid prints. I decided to stick with just one piece of flannel and pair it with a beige longline jacket to add more texture to my outfit.

This look is versatile and easy to change up. Just by swapping the color of the flannel, you can recreate this outfit in many different ways. The jeans and flannel are both pretty casual, but what makes this outfit pop is the long jacket and the cute boots! Tossing on a fancy jacket over a comfy outfit serves as an instant upgrade. Also, the simplicity of this outfit gives you the freedom to show off your new fall kicks. I decided to keep the jewelry to a minimum with this outfit because the coat and shoes provided enough of a wow factor that one statement ring was enough.
