STYLE GURU STYLE: Faux Shearling

When the weather starts to get cold, and I mean really cold, I sometimes want to cuddle up under a blanket and never leave my home. However, Burberry Prorsum’s pre-fall 2015 collection gave me hope that I can stay warm and look chic during subarctic temperatures. The collection featured feminine yet edgy shearling and leather looks that mixed romantic colors, like blush and ivory, with more masculine shades of tan and black. And after seeing Christopher Bailey’s work, I knew that a faux shearling coat was on my must-have list.

Enter this fantastic overcoat by Forever 21. Warm, fuzzy and beyond comfortable—who says you need to compromise style for warmth? I fell in love with this coat the second it caught my eye. The shade of pink is subtle yet girly, which can easily be made edgy with the right leather accessories, as evident in the Burberry Prorsum collection. In freezing temperatures, there is nothing better than feeling like you’re wrapped up in the arms of a teddy bear while looking runway ready. Bailey clearly understands my cold weather struggles.

The collection had models photographed in leather peep-toe ankle boots. Since that isn’t exactly winter friendly, I substituted them for my favorite secret weapon during winter months: waterproof, over the knee leather boots. They allow me to wear a pair of wool socks underneath that keep a significant portion of my legs warm. They also look great when paired with a feminine coat, especially one that has a bit of bulk to it as it elongates the legs. I finished off the look with earmuffs and leather gloves, which are my cold weather essentials.
