STYLE GURU STYLE: Faux Real?

Fur was all over the runways this season. Whether faux or real, coat or vest, snood or collar, it always looks sophisticated. In particular, the Fendi runway show was remarkable. Karl Lagerfeld, the genius behind Fendi, perfectly juxtaposed masculine and feminine pieces. The show presented neutral colors and straight silhouettes in varying textures. What’s the feature? It’s fur. The earth tones, combined with alternating textures of tweed, shearling, leather and fur, create a sleek look. I love how the outfits are styled and layered to showcase that opposites can attract. A boxy overcoat is paired with a flowing skirt and large, fur collar to make an otherwise militaristic outfit convey a hint of delicacy.

The Fendi show inspired me to go out and buy this faux fur cowl. I like that a cowl adds the necessary glamour to an outfit but still functions as an every day piece. It is warm and soft but also adds a statement to any outfit. As seen in the Fendi show, less is always more. Lagerfeld’s utilization of color, or lack thereof, helps to create a sophisticated look. I started simple with a white blouse, black jeans, and I layered my army green jacket to add function and edge to the look. The black suede boots are my favorite because of the stacked heel and elegant shape. To accessorize, I also kept it simple and used this oversized tote. As you can see from the picture, the bag is perfect for throwing in everything you need for an afternoon shopping in the city.

Don’t be afraid to mix textures and pair items that you wouldn’t necessarily think go together. The Fendi show acts as an example of how one can take a fur accessory, like a cowl, to create varying outfits depending on your personal style. If you want a more glamorous look, try pairing a fur-collared overcoat with an elegant gown and some lipstick. No matter the outfit, you can always incorporate fur to look sophisticated. After all, Karl Lagerfeld knows best.

Get My Look: 1. A fur cowl. 2. A military-inspired jacket. 3. An oversized tote.
