STYLE GURU STYLE: Fashionable Functionality

What’s up Fashionistas/os! As the school year comes into full-swing and autumn peers its head around the corner, it’s essential to start wearing pieces that are both fashionable and functional. Which is why I recently invested in a piece that can take someone from weekday warrior to weekend wanderer with ease.

That’s right, I’m talking about #overalls.

I bought my first pair of overalls somewhere around two years ago (disregarding the pairs in baby photos circa 1997, of course). They are a super relaxed, stretch-cotton denim from Madewell. To this day, these distressed dungarees remain one of the favorites in my closet. However, they didn’t see the light of day much this summer because, well, in the south it’s HOT—or humid, rather. Anyway, I needed a more professional and mature way to revamp one of my favorite looks so I traded in the denim for a wool/polyester blend.

The Debut Overalls from Kit and Ace need to be on every guy’s must-have list this season and the next and the next. And I’ll let you in on a little secret…they’re currently on sale!

These bad boys are everything I could have wanted in a jumpsuit. They feature side buttons for easy dressing, adjustable shoulder straps, a double-sided chest pocket, and, get this, an actual zipper fly! No more getting half-naked in the bathroom stall!

As I mentioned above, these overalls are both fashionable and functional. This is because Kit and Ace designs its clothing with the active wearer in mind. Think professional-athleisure, perhaps? Whether it’s biking to class or busting moves at a party, these overalls have got you covered. Also worthy of mention is that these are a tailored-style trouser pant. In other words, you won’t look like a giant toddler running around in them.

Now, onto how I style them. These overalls literally took me from Saturday night function to Sunday birthday brunch in just 24 hours—and yes they were my birthday gift to myself. So, for a night out, I paired these overalls with a cool long-sleeve, black, mesh shirt and heeled boots for what will now be one of my signature party looks. I felt and looked confident in this outfit, a double win.

As for the next morning, and per request of my in-town visiting mother, I wore them again. This time, as seen in the photos, I paired them with a white Michael Kors three-quarter sleeve, button-up polo and the same grey heeled boots from Forever 21. Other pairing suggestions include: boxed-cut oversized t-shirts, sleeveless tanks or breathable hooded vests.

Until next time Fashionistas/os! Stay #RAD!
