STYLE GURU STYLE: Ethereal Meets Military

Watching Alexander Wang for Balenciaga’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear show made more excited than I have ever been for a season. It’s totally ethereal meets military. Wang makes spring romantic with white silks, satins and laces. With a neutral color palette, he used a unique combination of draping and pleating in order to create the illusion of rose petals and soft flowing skirts. He makes springtime feel more effortless and feminine than ever before. From maxi gowns to baggy trousers, this collection shows a wide variety of the pieces one can wear during spring.

It looks like jumpsuits are here to stay as Balenciaga had a refreshing twist on the silhouette by having a baggy, military styled piece made from soft, white satin. Also, don’t be afraid to mix fabrics and fit this season, because Wang pairs lacy tops with cargo pants and cropped bustiers with pleated wide leg trousers. To complete the ethereal look, Balenciaga’s models walked down the runway in nude slippers which keeps on-trend with the neutral color scheme.

I love the combination of the ethereal whites with the cargo-inspired details. I channelled this style, by wearing a white jumpsuit which has the same combination. In a beautiful white silk, this piece has a certain ease to it that makes me feel the same femininity from Wang’s show. Additionally, the zipper in the middle and tie around the waist gave a nod to the combination of softness with the edgy military details. All in all, this was the perfect aspirational piece similar to Balenciaga’s spring show.

In order to give the look a personal twist, I wanted the shoes to be neutral, but with more edge. I wore an olive green platform with ankle ties and a wooden heel. For my accessories, I opt for simple gold jewelry which completes my look. When you’re trying to match this trend, look for white pieces with key military elements: zippers, drawstring waists and collars. The options are endless because it can be a dress, romper, jumpsuit or even cool separates. Then, go neutral or metallic with accessories. For a day look, opt for sandals or sporty platform wedges. However, during any time of the day, I find simple gold jewelry to be an elegant combination with all-white.

Get My Look: 1. A white jumpsuit. 2. Some gold jewelry.  3. A pair of wedges.
