STYLE GURU STYLE: Empire State of Mind

To start off, this week my outfit was inspired by the Tommy Hilfiger fall 2015 collection. His whole collection was based off of football and included several pieces with jersey detailing. I have always loved a masculine but feminine look. Jersey style clothing makes it easy to create that look—you can find more feminine prints that have masculine features, like a thick collar, or you can wear a darker, masculine version and add accessories to make the look softer. This week, I had the privilege to take a trip to New York with my family and had the perfect dress for the occasion!

This was my first trip to New York and after about ten minutes of walking through Times Square, I knew I wanted to be a part of this city. The fashion is overwhelming, on one corner there is Chanel and down the block sits Gucci. Everywhere you look is another fluorescent sign advertising your favorite brands. The people around you also inspire you to push your limits in fashion and take risks with your outfits. I know when I go home and put together an outfit I will take some of the inspiration I have found here and try and incorporate it into my everyday looks.

So to pay homage to this busy, beautiful city I threw on this jersey T-shirt dress from H&M. I love the fun palm leaf pattern of the dress; I have seen other brands like Victoria’s Secret using similar patterns, but what stood out about this particular dress to me was the pink flowers and the unique collar detail. I personally like to find pieces that have some type of detail that stands out to me and the collar on this dress was that selling point for me. If you find pieces that have a lot of detail already, it makes accessorizing easier. For my accessories I kept it simple since I was traveling; I used a simple black cross-body bag with gold detailing and put on one single gold Alex and Ani bangle. For my shoes, I wore my black Converse for a sportier look rather than my usual black sandals!

If one thing is for sure, I love this city and can’t wait to come back!
