STYLE GURU STYLE: Embracing The New

There are times where I find myself gravitating toward an item of clothing I wouldn’t normally wear. If you’re like me, then you probably stare at it, wonder what it would look like on and then decide not to buy it. You then later find yourself repeating the same process next time around. However, I think it’s time for you and I to step out of our comfort zone and try something new, what do you say?

After daydreaming over some of the cute and sophisticated pieces from the A.P.C. spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection, I decided to give a jumpsuit I bought a while ago another try. When I think of jumpsuits, I immediately think they are better suited for taller girls and, since I’m on the short side, I usually just avoid it. However, after seeing the diversity and spunk in this collection and fantasizing over some of its jumpsuits, I thought it’d be nice to see this article of clothing in a different light. I liked how this collection had a diverse selection that brought out a different woman in each outfit worn. It’s perfect because the beauty of fashion is being able to be whoever you want. If you wanted to wear a dress, a jumpsuit, a simple top with denim bottoms, a skirt or just feel comfortable and simple as can be, the pieces still managed to pour out a level of modernness, sophistication and chicness—so basically world domination is in your hands.

I paired my jumpsuit with a few details: simple black hat, a braided belt, a pair of sunglasses and high-top Converse. Since my jumpsuit was all one color, it was easier for me to play around with the extra details and take it up a notch. What I think really helps the outfit reach another level is the braided belt around my waist. It definitely makes the outfit standout and not just blend in. And to the short girls like me, I tell you to not fear the jumpsuit. You can always alter it or cuff them up like I did!
