STYLE GURU STYLE: Elizabeth and James

Burr! It’s finally getting cold out here! I think that we can all agree that this winter has been a bit crazy. It vastly changes from warm to cool within the hour and this makes choosing your look for the day a bit challenging. Luckily, I’ve found a fun and simple way to solve this costume crisis with the help of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

The pre-fall 2016 collection for Elizabeth and James, the contemporary line of the Olsen Twins, focuses on simplistic and oversized silhouettes. The collection achieves a grunge vibe by using knits and denim as key materials and a muted color palette. The twins wanted to capture their effortless style in this clothing line. Wide leg pants, extremely long sleeves, oversized blazers and sweaters simultaneously come together to capture the natural flair of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

Whenever I’m in a rush and need a quick, yet chic look before class, the first thing I look for is a dress. Now that it’s getting colder, knit sweater dresses are the best way to accomplish an effortlessly comfortable and stylish ensemble. I always choose sweater dresses that are a couple sizes bigger than my actual dress size. This way the dress fits more freely. I’ve also found that picking regular oversized sweaters complete this look as well. Darker colors not only tie into the grunge feel, but they also make it easier to pair accessories.

The benefit of a dress is that you don’t have to match a top and a bottom together. Therefore, you have a little extra time to accessorize in the morning. In my look, you’ll see that I have paired a simple chain necklace with my dress. Plain black tights and gathered gray knee socks balance the colors while also keeping my legs warm. With this look I am comfortable whether it is chilly or warm outside.

Get My Look: 1. Gray sweater dress. 2. Feather chain necklace. 3. Black combat boots.
