STYLE GURU STYLE: Effortless Boho

I believe the best outfits are those that look effortless and comfortable. Even if you’ve really spent an hour picking out what to wear, that effortless, off-duty model vibe can be achieved by keeping a couple of things in mind. First, it’s important to avoid clothes that are too tight. Not only are overly snug clothes unflattering, but they look uncomfortable and are distracting. It makes me uncomfortable to see someone else wearing something that looks uncomfortable. Second, don’t over-accessorize. When in doubt, take off that extra necklace.

Taking inspiration from the BCBGMAXAZRIA spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I centered my look around an easy white dress. BCBG’s spring collection was full of feminine dresses in muted hues. Accessories, jewelry, and makeup were kept to a minimum. A bright white dress is a great blank canvas to add fun accessories to. I kept my look comfy and casual by pairing it with funky espadrille flats by TOMS shoes and a bright yellow kate spade satchel. This look is more boho than I usually dress, but I think the structured bag balances out the look and makes it more my style. Like the BCBGMAXAZRIA runway models, I kept my makeup natural and jewelry to a minimum.

I tried out another trend with my Roxy kimono. I like this kimono because it’s light enough to wear over a dress or tank on a warm day. Long sleeves are great to protect my arms from the sun and avoid the stickiness of sunscreen.

Get my look: 1. A white dress. 2. A printed kimono. 3. Espadrilles.
