STYLE GURU STYLE: Effortless Bohemian

Valentino’s Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear collection was everything I dreamed it would be—a bohemian wonderland filled with feminine cuts, flowing shapes, intricate embroidery, and lots of knee-high gladiator sandals. The looks somehow managed to exude sophisticated effortlessness— despite these bold details. The designs were filled with rich, earthy colors that made up whimsical floral patterns. This collection embodies my dream summer wardrobe from the girly white eyelet pieces, to the breezy patterned midi-dresses, to the all-black-everything looks to balance out the collection with a bit of edginess.

I was particularly inspired by Look 23 in this collection— a merlot colored midi dress featuring a short sleeve and a beautiful black and cream floral pattern all over. Minimal accessories were used in this collection, as the clothing speaks for itself through it’s thoughtful design. The look really focused on dress’s pattern and subtle details, like the beaded pockets and collar. The main inspiration I took away from this show is maximizing the details in your look— finding pieces with special features that stand out on their own. Like my dress featured here: a breezy little boho dress with an unexpected open back and embroidered strip down the center. The multi-colored patterns— a rusty red, classic navy and cream create an entire pallet all in one light, airy dress. This dress really reminded me of Valentino’s Look 23 with it’s color, pattern, short sleeves, and attention to special details. When I saw this dress I had to have it, as an ode to one of my favorite designer’s spring collection.

Get My Look: Look for pieces with the details already built-in: cool cutouts, unique embroidery, bold patterns, or a statement texture. When the clothing speaks for itself, it avoids the need for extra accessories (which means less work for you too)! Since the patterned dress is the feature of this outfit, minimal accessories were needed. A trendy arm cuff and girly gold feather bangle supply a touch of glam to the otherwise casual look. Play up the outfit further with necessary details- like your shoes and sunnies. I went with some tortoise shell sunglasses to finish off the look with another subtle pattern, and a pair of metallic strappy sandals.
