STYLE GURU STYLE: Easily Per-SUEDE-d

I’m all about the ‘70s style. Anything that is wide leg, cropped, suede, fringed, high-waisted etc., you can bet I have it in my closet. Every time I leave my apartment, I like to try to be as trendy and cool as possible.

My inspiration for this outfit came from Derek Lam spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. This collection incorporates almost everything that I love. For example, high-waisted pants, a lot of use in color (mostly greens and purples), suede in almost every look and a bunch of pieces that one could mix and match.

I took inspiration more from the vibe of the collection rather than from the actual pieces of the collection. Although I did include a pair of high-waisted, wide leg, suede pants, I feel my look is way more casual than Derek Lam’s collection. My look could work for virtually any day-to-day function, whereas his collection has more of a put together feel for a fancier, more important event and/or person. I believe both my look and his collection achieve the same sort of vibe and coolness for whoever wants to wear it. Whether that person is a college student on a budget or an established businesswoman.

In my outfits, I like to choose one or two pieces to be the statement pieces. I toned down my outfit with a plain white shirt and paired it with suede pants and a fringe bag. I also chose to wear minimal jewelry so that the pants and bag could speak for themselves. Derek Lam had various statement pieces in some of his looks, which, I think is what gave the looks that fancier feel. I also added a wedge with my outfit, but it could definitely go even more casual with a flat sandal. One could even dress it up with a jacket and some heels.

Get My Look: 1. Free People white tank top. 2. Suede wide leg pants. 3. Fringe bag.
