STYLE GURU STYLE: Dust Off Your Shoulders

The autumn season is officially here! The leaves are a beautiful golden hue and dreamily fall, in a shower of color, from the trees they’ve decorated for months. Foggy mornings make it even more difficult to leave your bed for that 8:00 a.m. course when all you want to do is watch Netflix under a mountain of blankets. But with the fall season also comes new style possibilities!

Picture this—models gliding down the runway in ankle length military-inspired coats, skinny scarves over plunging necklines and shearling coats so luxurious you’ll wonder if the amount of hot chocolate you now won’t have to buy to keep you warm will balance out the cost of the coat. Chloé’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection is as fierce as it sounds. The looks range from androgynous duster coats to billowy bohemian dresses made of velvets and chiffons of soft, neutral colors. This seasons line was very playful when it came to combining different textured fabrics and dramatic silhouettes to create polished and mature outfits.

For my outfit, I definitely took inspiration from the wool coats and statement boots that graced the Chloé catwalk. Trying to embody the look of autumn while taking style cues from the Chloé show, I wore my slightly oversized forest green duster coat from a local thrift store with a mustard yellow turtleneck to enhance the gold details on my coat. My all-black bottoms, from my distressed skinny jeans to my vintage chunky heeled boots, created a clean finish to my look to not distract the attention away from the statement piece of the outfit, the wool coat. Having one statement piece surrounded by simple, basic clothing is a fantastic way to ensure a killer outfit that is eye-catching without being too over the top.

Get My Look: 1. Duster coat. 2. Turtleneck. 3. Chunky heeled boots.
