STYLE GURU STYLE: Down For Denim

One of the first things that come to mind when I think about summertime is color. The leaves are green, the flowers are blossomed and the sun is shining. To me, the abundance of colors is pure bliss. My summer wardrobe often reflects my love for bright and bold colors and I am always looking for different ways to incorporate a pop of color into my everyday look.

When I checked out Frida Giannini’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear Gucci collection, I noticed that denim had made its way back onto the runway. What really inspired me about this collection was Giannini’s decision to pair bold colors and patterns with the denim. Similar styles appeared in other notable designers’ collections such as Burberry Prorsum, Tommy Hilfiger, Louis Vuitton, Dolce&Gabbana and Fendi, as well.

After searching through my closet, I decided that I’d try to put my own spin on the trend. My goal was to rock the denim, but still have bright and bold summer colors included in my look. I put on a basic, white crop top and layered my light denim vest over top. When I first spotted this vest at Target, I immediately fell in love with the lace trim because it added another element of texture to the garment. I also wore a hot pink maxi skirt, which provided the bold color I desired. I decided to tie everything together with a bright, blue statement necklace and a simple shoulder bag. These pieces all worked perfectly together to give me that standout, summer look that I was going for.

Get My Look: 1. Light denim vest. 2. Colored maxi skirt. 3. Statement necklace.
