Kenzo’s 2014 spring ready-to-wear collection had me headed for the shore. His ocean inspired colors and prints looked beautiful on the runway as models strutted down the catwalk in chic sandals. They sported slicked back hair and natural makeup that looked as if they had just emerged from the sea. Skirts, tops, pants and coats were shown in blacks and whites before the color palette shifted to the deep blues and crisp whites of the ocean. The collection also moved from solid pieces to prints, incorporating patterns that were reminiscent of ocean waves. Other patterns resembled green and grey sea glass and, more obviously, a fish pattern was also included. The colors on the runway transitioned again, ending the show with bright fuchsias and pinks, much like the sun would set over the sea. Kenzo’s collection truly captured the essence of summer and had me dreaming of a day at the beach.
Inspired by the runway and my love of the ocean, I wanted to incorporate several different aspects of Kenzo’s collection. I opted for a tunic dress in an ocean inspired print. The deep blues, bright pinks and clean white of the dress reminded me of the color palette that was shown on the runway. The seashell print and bright colors are perfect for a warm, summer day by the ocean. I paired the dress with white wedge sandals; adding a heel instantly slims and elongates the legs while dressing up any outfit. To complete my look, I added a simple silver necklace with a starfish pendant and a silver monogrammed bracelet. A bright pink lip and white nails complemented my outfit and tied the color palette together.
Kenzo’s 2014 spring collection was a real catch. The breezy fabrics, bright colors and beautiful prints captured a day at sea. From the blues of the ocean and the whites of the sea foam to the warm pinks of the sunset, every aspect of a day at the beach was represented. Together, Kenzo created a collection that truly embodies summer and everything that I love about it.
