STYLE GURU STYLE: Don’t Forget a Pencil (Skirt)

Coco Chanel once said, “Once you’ve dressed, and before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off.” While Chanel promoted a simplified and classy look, the art of modern day designers often mirrors hers. Altuzarra’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection does an excellent job of doing just this as he paints a clean and sophisticated, yet sexy image for this collection. In addition to simple solids and neutral colors, it features an overwhelming amount of tubular silhouettes and pencil skirts. In order to spice up this trend, Altuzzarra adds slits and cuts to put a modern (and slightly scandalous) spin on a classic skirt. To add some texture and frill to this sleek image, subtle hints of fringe are added to the bags.

Neutral colors, minimal accessories and a sense of class dominate my wardrobe and style. In favor of a stylish and sophisticated look, my closet for this season greatly consists of lightweight pencil skirts. Pencil skirts are extremely versatile and becoming for just about every shape and size. With this being said, I paired a knitted ribbed pencil skirt with a navy button-up. Inspired by Altuzarra’s color palette and hints of fringe, I accessorized this outfit with a pair of beige suede booties and black leather bag. The fringe on my boots and bag not only adds texture, but also a more laid-back and casual vibe perfect for a lunch date with a few friends or casual get-together.

Get My Look: 1. Pencil skirt. 2. Button-up shirt. 3. Fringe booties.
