STYLE GURU STYLE: Don't Ditch The Vest

This summer, I have been obsessed with layering pieces. Whether it’s with a jean jacket, a summer sweater or a tailored blazer, I always find myself layering up! While surrendering to my love of browsing the latest fashion collections, I came across a designer who seemed to share my passion for layering pieces. In Belstaff’s 2016 resort collection, almost every outfit included a jacket or blazer creating a very complete look. Look six and look 10 from this collection especially caught my eye because of the different takes on trendy, season-appropriate vests.

Belstaff’s inclusion of vests inspired me to create an outfit incorporating a vest as well. I started with an army green ditch vest as my main piece and then built the outfit around it. The ditch vest is boxy and masculine, and therefore in order to balance out the harsh nature of the vest I decided to wear a black body-con skirt with a subtle black and white printed crop top. The bodycon skirt created curves directly balancing out the boxy vest, while the printed crop top added a feminine touch to the entirety of the look. Lastly, I decided that studded sandals would be the perfect shoes for this look because they would create a very low-key edge without taking any attention away from the main pieces of the outfit.

I think it is extremely important to maintain your style even when trying something new. For me, I decided to include the feminine crop top in my look because my style traditionally leans more towards the feminine side. The bold masculine vest was a piece that I wouldn’t normally be drawn to, but by incorporating my own personal style, I was able to create a new look that I love!

Get My Look: 1. Ditch vest. 2. Crop top. 3. Body-con skirt. 4. Studded sandals.
