STYLE GURU STYLE: Don't be Sheepish

When you’re emanating cool, heat doesn’t matter. I recently came across the alice + olivia fall 2015 ready-to-wear fashion show. A plethora of black and white outfits strutted down the runway, perfectly conceived with detailed patterns, sleek fabrics and accentuations of fur. Styled with sharp eyes and dark lips, the ensembles were hardcore and edgy. While they were fabulously glam, no one would be messing with these models. The show inspired me. I was absolutely ecstatic to try out and translate these looks into my everyday wardrobe.

Hence why during the dead middle of July in Washington D.C., I decided it would be completely acceptable to wear a leather and sheep wool vest as a part of my outfit of the day. I may have been a season early, but fashion doesn’t wait. Additionally, shying away from a trend is not my forte. I matched my vest with a pair of lightweight black joggers and a black crop top underneath because while fashion may not wait, me going to the hospital due to heat stroke certainly can.

I finished off the outfit with black flats and a gold armband with marble blue endings. Black and white outfits are classic and chic, but my personal style always likes to finish them off with a touch of color. Plus, the gold of the armband matched with the gold buttons and zippers of the vest, pulling the outfit perfectly together. Since my maroon lip gloss is currently missing in action (tragic, I know), I chose to add that extra layer of edge to my look through a high ponytail. If Audrey Hepburn and James Dean were to have had a child, I’m pretty positive this outfit is would be it.

Get My Look: 1. An edgy vest. 2. Joggers. 3. A trendy gold armband.
