STYLE GURU STYLE: Do Denim

Denim is always a classic and a staple in any wardrobe. However, with the recent revival of ’70s style this season, denim has been more present than ever. Denim boilersuits, jackets, flare jeans and Canadian tuxedos can be seen on just about any fashion blog or street style site right now. When looking for inspiration on how to style denim for spring, I was especially struck by the Chloé spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. I loved the interesting contradictions in this collection—light and dark shades, heavy all-denim looks and airy cheesecloth pieces including dresses with spaghetti strap necklines and voluminous hems.

With the Chloé spring collection in mind, I paired my light wash denim jacket with an airy cotton slip dress with strap detailing on the neckline. A little black slip like this can be perfect for a dressier nighttime look, but with the addition of denim, it is great for daytime as well. I also opted for a brown leather purse rather than black to add contrast and keep the outfit appropriate for day.

The denim jacket trend is perfect for this time of year because of its versatility. It can be layered with sweaters, scarves and even other jackets on cooler days, but looks just as good paired with a summery dress and sandals. Though I wore tights and boots with this outfit for early April, later in the season I would pair the same jacket and dress combo with bare legs and gladiator sandals similar to the styles seen in the Chloé show.

Get My Look: 1. A classic denim jacket. 2. A strappy slip dress. 3. A brown leather satchel.
