STYLE GURU STYLE: Desert Hues

The cold winter weather may beg for strictly neutral tones from your wardrobe, but Alberta Ferretti’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection displays an array of different desert-inspired hues that can add warmth to any look. The collection displayed shades of brown, orange and yellow in bohemian styles and loose silhouettes; Alberta Ferretti paired these colors with black to give it a modern touch. The “festival girl” vibe was the perfect inspiration for this dull winter day’s look.

To transform this runway look into an everyday outfit, I paired a flowing burnt orange top with a black faux leather jacket to replicate the color palette seen in the collection. I decided to layer a brown scarf over the jacket to give the look even more warmth. I noticed that many of the looks within the collection featured loose silhouettes, so I decided to pair the top and the jacket with high-waist bell-bottom jeans to not only give it a ‘70s vibe, but to also adhere to the overall festival-inspired style.

To accessorize, I decided to wear various silver and gold rings, and silver hoop earrings. Mixing metals gave this look a very carefree vibe. Then, for my shoes, I chose to wear black crushed velvet heeled booties to give me some height in order to keep my feet from being swallowed by the loose jeans. Although Alberta Ferretti used sandals with all of her outfits, the crushed velvet booties were a winter friendly version of her ultra detailed gladiators.

I think this look is perfect for many occasions: coffee dates, shopping or even going to class! You could really put your own twist on this desert-inspired runway trend.
