STYLE GURU STYLE: Denim For Days

I can’t believe that it is already July! This summer seems to be flying by a little faster than I thought it would. One thing I’ve noticed about this summer is that the weather is not consistent. One day it’ll be as hot and dry as the Sahara desert; other days it will be humid and rainy like the Amazon rainforest. I’m not a fan. To deal with the ever-changing summer days, I took some inspiration from the Anna Sui spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The collection features a whole lot of denim and some delicate crochet pieces.

I took the heart of Anna Sui’s denim-centered collection and switched it up to make it more like my own style. Bring on the denim. In this look, I wore my distressed high-waisted shorts from Levi’s. I have owned these shorts for years, and they are still one of my most worn pieces in my closet. I feel like summer is all about high-waisted shorts and just communicating an easy-going vibe with what you’re wearing.

I decided to pair my shorts with a red, white and blue flannel with the “see no evil” monkey emoji (one of my favorites) gracing the back. This flannel isn’t too heavy, so it’s perfect for those somewhat chillier summer days that sneak up on you. Plus, you can tie it around your waist if it suddenly gets hotter outside. The best thing about this flannel is that it’s super soft and just feels so nice to wear. Underneath my flannel, I wore a crochet crop top and a black bandeau under that. I love the look and feel of crochet on just about anything, so this was a no-brainer.

To class up the outfit (kind of), I chose to accessorize with my rose gold Michael Kors watch. Rose gold is a really versatile jewelry color, and I believe that the watch completes this look. I love pairing denim with all different kinds of pieces to make completely new and refreshing looks.

Get My Look: 1. High-waisted denim shorts. 2. Flannel. 3. Crochet crop top.
