Although summer has officially started (barely), it is hard to believe that it will be gone in the blink of an eye. Designers have already been gearing up for the fall 2014 season, Marques’ Almeida being one of them. Denim looks flocked the London runway. As stated, “Their blood might as well be indigo.” So might ours. Denim is and always has been a staple across all seasons: from colder months to daisy duke cut-offs. However, Marques’ Almeida did not fall into the trap of generic denim. They gave their jeans an upgrade. Frayed edges, flap pockets and bell-bottom legs (yes, they’re back) all made an appearance. Various hues and dyes gave these looks an added twist. Their show set a precedent for how denim should be: appreciated and admired.
For a casual look, I decided to go with a pair of washed denim cut offs. The hue I went with could easily go with light or dark tops, making it a perfect addition and necessary staple to my closet. I paired the shorts with a simple navy top to create some contrast between the washed shorts and dark top. The top also had mesh detailing which added to the casual summer look (and helped cool me off too). Although I went with a laid-back approach, this look could easily be dressed up with wedges and some statement jewelry. The options for denim are truly endless.
