STYLE GURU STYLE: Denim and Denim

Blue is my absolute favorite color. Thus denim everything (jackets, jeans and skirts) are the staples in my closet. Recently, I’ve been inspired by many street styles with off-the-shoulder tops, so my hauls from a Fourth of July sale included a few of these trendy tops. It has been very exciting for me to experiment, pairing the tops with my closet staples, while inspired by the Madewell spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection; which has an overall casual street style look and plays around with the colors of white, blue and some relatively muted colors.

Being the first collection under Madewell’s new head of design, Joyce Lee, I can say I love every piece in the collection! Even though there is still the tomboyish element, it is sweetened up with embroideries, lace-up tops and tie-front skirts. Instead of wearing a lace-up or embroidered top, I chose a tulip off-the-shoulder crop top as my feminine tweak of the outfit. Having a tulip shaped top adds a soft element to my whole look; and off-the-shoulder tops are perfect for summer since they show skin, which helps to cool off from the heat.

Even though it is summer, it is never too hot in San Francisco because sunny days are often accompanied with breezy winds. But what I love about Madewell’s collection is how it looks summer-vacation ready while staying warm with long-sleeve tops and lights jackets. Lots of denim pieces, such as denim overall, vest, skirt, jacket and jean, are included in the collection. I chose a light blue denim jacket and a pair of dark-wash ripped skinny jeans as my denim elements of the outfit. Denim on denim is not an usual outfit for me but it works here as there isn’t an overwhelming amount of colors, which allows the denim blues to be the center of attention. I also love Madewell’s use of a bandanna as a choker. But since denim is my outfit focus, I opted for a thin metal choker instead.

Get My Look: 1. Off-the-shoulder top. 2. Denim jacket. 3. Ripped jean.
