STYLE GURU STYLE: Dark Shades and Magnificent Metallics

Summer is often the time of year where all the bright colored garments find their way to the front centre of every Fashionista/o’s closet, pushing the dark garment’s to the far back corner. This summer, I’ve decided to balance my custard blouses with my jet black trousers to keep each day interesting.

Finding inspiration from the Lanvin resort 2015 collection, I knew I had to follow the metallics over dark shades trend found throughout the collection. The designs consisted of mostly neutral dark pieces under interesting gold and silver sequins and metallic embroidery, creating visually appealing and interesting garments.

While choosing my own pieces to create a full look similar to look 32 of the Lanvin collection, I knew simplicity was key to creating a successful outfit that incorporated a metallic statement. I chose to wear a matching set of black trousers and halter neck crop top. The trousers were high-waisted with a very comfortable waist band to create a jogger-like feel to a semi-dressy ensemble. I paired the black Co-ord with a beautifully detailed kimono. The kimono, having gold printed detail, pulled the entire look together, achieving the same visually appealing look found in the show.

After choosing the metallic printed kimono to give my look a pop of excitement, I decided to accessorize lightly to avoid overpowering the garments worn. I wore two of my favorite yellow gold bangles alongside a trendy wrap-a-round black and silver bracelet to create interesting contrast between gold and silver. For the ears, I wore small gold triangle shaped studs.

The simplicity of black garments with the shine of metallic details create modern and edgy looks that can be either dressed up or down for any occasion!
