This upcoming fall, don’t hesitate to find inspiration in Kaelen’s resort 2015. It’s the perfect influence for outfits during the new semester. With a mainly monochromatic collection, Kaelen Haworth incorporated neoprene fabrics and chunky stripes. She also used a floral print which she called a “trippy Hawaiian-shirt print.” Still, one can see that the designer looked no further than the classic black and white combo as an inspiration for her new collection.
You might think black and white will not make you stand out, but you are wrong. The beauty of black and white allows you to mix and match prints without feeling overwhelmed by the clash of colors. The same goes for fabrics, you can choose to incorporate neoprene with lace or leather and organza altogether and your outfit can still be a clean-cut masterpiece.
I wanted to fuse the elements that I found most attractive in the collection. This meant for the outfit I wore black and white stripes and neoprene fabrics and for accessories, I donned pointy shoes and a slicked back low bun as shown in the look book. I chose a neoprene skater skirt, because the fabric makes a structured shaped and has a girly feel to it. Also, I paired the bulky bottom with a striped long sleeve crop top. These two pieces were the main elements I chose to mimic from Kaelen’s collection.
I toned my outfit down with casual accessories like pointy flats, a big handbag to carry books and a sweater with a stripped detail on the sleeves that matches the outfit. Finally, the outfit is not complete without a little bit of jewelry. To keep it minimal and simple, choose a gold or silver choker like mine with pearled detail.
This outfit is perfect for a breezy summer afternoon or for class in early fall. It proves that you don’t have to settle for black jeans and a white T-shirt to achieve a monochromatic look.
