STYLE GURU STYLE: Cozy With An Attitude

One thing that I find difficult to do in winter is dress warm but still look stylish. I fall into the routine of wearing my biggest, coziest sweater with leggings and knee-high boots, which has never failed me but I am getting bored to say the least. My goal has been to put more effort into getting dressed in the morning rather than rolling out of bed a throwing on the same old outfit. Just as I was losing hope, the Au Jour Le Jour pre-fall 2016 collection made me regain it all back again. This collection spoke to the part of me that loves to be surrounded by blankets at all times because I am a cold human being.

The collection has an animal theme with an overarching ’70s vibe. I loved that the designers chose to use faux furs rather than real animal fur. This collection is also perfect for a winter wardrobe because most of the looks incorporate layering. I chose to layer a gray midi-length dress underneath my super cozy sweater that replicates a faux fur look. Although the designers used more earthy tones I chose to go a more monochromatic route choosing black, gray and white.

I added some more dramatic pieces such as the heels and statement necklace to transcribe the collection into a more date night appropriate look. Although I had a hard time staying away from a dramatic smokey eye with a bold lip, I decided to go with a more subdued makeup look with rosy cheeks and nude lips. I left my hair in loose curls to pay tribute to a modern ’70s hair style. Typically in the winter I would not dare to wear open toe shoes but I followed the designer’s advice and ended up loving this outfit. The heels really made this outfit classy where boots may have made me look frumpy. The Au Jour Le Jour collection made me really think about how I can vamp up my look but still stay warm during the winter.
