STYLE GURU STYLE: Cozy In Crops

In alice + olivia’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, we were wowed by the designer’s use of vibrant and fresh colors in a simple and feminine way.  The collection had us anxiously anticipating spring because of the refreshing colors and floral fabrics used in each look. Each piece had a classic vibe with the use of collar details and the structured fit of each garment. From crop tops to collarless jackets to a striking midi gown, each piece had inspiration from Versailles, giving the collection its chic and sophisticated look. Though many pieces in the collection are professional and work appropriate, the youthful pops of color give it a sense of “play” as well.

To translate this look into a “class appropriate” outfit, I used inspiration from the color palette of the collection. Seeing this collection, I was inspired to wear a crop top, keeping in mind that it is still snowing in the Northeast. I chose a heavy cropped sweater in bright coral in lieu of spring approaching. Underneath, I layered a pale blue button-down top and wore fleece lined leggings and Hunter Boots to stay warm in the snow. As designer Stacey Bendet said, “In the Pierre, everything should sparkle.” Inspired by this, I wore a sparkling crystal statement necklace to finish off the look.

This spring 2015 collection inspired me to wear bright colors despite the weather. Layering is always key, as is incorporating a pop of your personality through a fun piece such as a statement necklace!
