STYLE GURU STYLE: Copacetic Camel

I’ve been binge watching Mad Men lately, so it is not exactly a surprise that I have been obsessing over 1960s and 1970s fashion trends. This particular outfit was pretty heavily inspired by the Saint Laurent’s spring 2015 menswear collection runway show. I fell in love instantly as soon as I heard the song by the Mystic Braves playing and saw the first model walk down the runway. All of the little oddities you don’t see every day were featured in this collection: tassels, sequin embroidery, fringe capes, feathered hats, leather pants, etc. Also, the color palette was spectacular. Faded shades and murky hues colored the garments in an array of patterns and textures. I don’t own quite as many ’70s-inspired pieces as I’d like to so I did my best with a modern approach to the decade.

A cropped camel-colored sweater was an obvious choice for me. This color has multiplied in my wardrobe over the past two months, so finding something in the shade was easy. Although, I didn’t match it with another color (as seen in the show). I kept the neutral and black theme consistent. I also added a plain, black wide brimmed hat because I saw those were very popular throughout the collection. Long, elaborate statement necklaces were worn on a few models. I went with a simple quartz choker for a more contemporary twist.

Skinny jeans were seen on a decent amount of male models but not on any of the females, which I thought was slightly funny. The male models had bigger thigh gaps than any of the girls. I picked out my favorite pair of ripped black pants. Now, for the best part of any outfit—the shoes. I have a love affair with flatforms. These are a particularly unique pair because they have a light brown leather appearance.

Get My Look: 1. Cropped camel sweater. 2. Crystal choker. 3. Ripped black skinny jeans. 4. Leather look flatforms.
