STYLE GURU STYLE: Concrete Runway

Keeping up with the Kardashians is this generation’s guilty pleasure. From the television show, magazine covers and their apps, theses ladies know how to get anyones attention. As much as some of us hate to admit it, we all look up to them for fashion inspiration. Whether that be Kendall strutting her stuff on the runway, Kim’s amazing trench coats and midi skirts, Khloe’s shoe collection, Kourtney’s pantsuits or Kylie’s flawless makeup and hair, we can’t help but indulge in the Kardashian empire frenzy.

The glitz and glam that emulates from pop culture’s royal family has trickled down the ladder to us normal folk, and has inspired our wardrobes in a whole new way. Street style has become a runway in itself; presenting your ensemble to passerbyers has always been a thing, but now it seems that it has turned into a stage that Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld are front row for. Designer brands are what many eyes are drawn to, and many Fashionistas strive to keep up with the latest trends. Thanks to Instagram, celebrity fashion is right at our fingertips. Anyone can go on Kendall Jenner’s page and buy either the same or a similar article of clothing with ease. However, regurgitating a celebrity’s outfit does not make the wearer fashionable, it is how the person interprets and modifies that look to make it their own.

Keeping things simple and edgy is my style advice. Minimalistic clothing with great accessories is what makes an outfit go from drab to fab. Pairing jet black jeans with knee rips and a white ribbed high neck jumper, creates the perfect amount of texture and sleekness. This look was showcased at the Céline fall 2015 fashion show and has inspired many celebrities and Fashionistas to interpret the look.

Accessories are what makes any outfit personal. Many of the Kardashian sisters can be seen sporting Fendi fur monster charms, and thanks to them, individuals all over college campuses, including myself, can be seen accessorizing their bags with such a thing. Lace-up pumps with mesh detail, bring sexiness to the look, and  emerald green sunglasses bring attention to such a monochromatic outfit. The belt and clutch are what brand junkies can’t get enough of, and the two create a look that only celebrities can pull off.

So whether your inspiration is from celebrity families like the Kardashians, high fashion couture like Céline or by your best friend, making it your own is what makes an outfit successful.
