STYLE GURU STYLE: Coming Out of Your Shell

It’s been abnormally cold in California this winter, so I have been consistently reaching for my biggest and chunkiest sweaters. I think turtlenecks are the best kind of sweater when you need to stay warm in Southern California’s chilly 50 degree weather. You can’t ever go wrong with a nice turtleneck!

I drew a lot of inspiration from Victoria Beckham’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. It features both thin, more feminine turtlenecks as well as chunky, more masculine turtlenecks. The one particular item I was most drawn to was the biggest and chunkiest turtleneck of the whole collection, which closely resembles the pink turtleneck from Banana Republic that is shown above.

This year, I have loved pastel colors, no matter the season. I think light pink, like the color of the turtleneck I am wearing, can be translated to be worn in any season, not just spring or summer. I think especially for winter, pastel pink is a great alternative for winter white. Instead of wearing the turtleneck with a long skirt, like worn in Victoria Beckham’s collection, I paired the sweater with some high-waisted jeans with rips at the knees. I liked the combination of the pink turtleneck with the ripped denim because I like the contrast of the girly pink sweater with the more edgy jeans. I paired the outfit with some booties because I wanted to dress up the outfit a bit, again taking inspiration from Victoria Beckham’s more dressed-up collection.

I love turtlenecks because they are an easy and comfortable way to make a bold statement.
