STYLE GURU STYLE: Color Blocking with Faux Fur and Turtlenecks

I may not be a fashion major, but fashion has always been something that I’ve really had a passion for. Putting garments together is one of my favorite things to do. I work at a clothing store, so I get a lot of customers come to me with advice on how to style different garments for different occasions.

With most outfits that I wear, I really like to incorporate color blocking into my color scheme. I think color blocking really adds intensity to the colors being worn to make the outfit stand out more.

I have a lot of style icons that I look to when putting garments together. But one thing in particular that I look to when putting garments together are movies and TV shows. Movies and TV shows have been greatly inspired by fashion. Who would Carrie Bradshaw be without her Manolo Blahnik’s or Blair Waldorf without her signature headband? These characters have paved the way for Fashionistas around the world.

I feel as though the garments I wear are always inspired something I see in a movie or TV show. For this outfit I got inspiration from my favorite fashionable character: Serena Van Der Woodsen from Gossip Girl. I believe this TV show was one of the most fashionable shows to date. The wide brim hat I’m wearing is inspired by Serena, who would often accessorize her outfits with a hat. I wore a neutral color faux fur vest with a burgundy turtleneck. I then paired those with black skinny jeans.

That being said, when putting garments together, I like to get my inspiration from the most fashionable characters of movies and TV shows. Also, I like mixing basic garments with garments that are bold. When I don’t know what to wear I look to Pinterest for ideas on how to put garments together. The way you dresses says a lot about who you are and I’d say I’m subtly bold.
