STYLE GURU STYLE: College Chic

In my perfect world, I would wake up early everyday, walk into my meticulously organized and color-coded closet and pick out an outfit that matches my well distinguished personal style, as well as my Instagram feed. But lets be real, by this point in the semester my Instagram is subpar and the amount of time I have to find an outfit is the three minutes that I’m waiting for my coffee to brew. However, being a busy college student doesn’t mean that your outfits have to suffer in the process.

I’ve found that lately the simplest outfits seem to do the trick for me. My ideal outfit at the moment is a large sweater paired with leggings. As fellow college students, let’s admit— we all own at least one or twelve pairs of leggings. But lately I have been living for these ripped leggings in particular. Not only are they super cute and can be paired with anything, I got them for eight dollars at a fashion warehouse. With the original 40 dollar tag still attached, I could not pass them up. This fall season I 100 percent suggest checking out resale stores. Buying your sweaters and jackets at discounted prices lets you save up for the next season’s trends. This way when spring rolls around, your bank account will be ready to buy all of the amazing tank tops and bomber jackets that we know we don’t really need, but are totally buying anyways.

Putting the leggings aside, wearing oversized knit sweaters is also a great way to add texture and dimension to already flattering all black outfits. The sweater adds a cozy aspect to these nontraditional leggings and the leggings amp up the typical “sweater weather” look, making this a perfect pair.

Although this season I’m keeping it simple, a Fashionista can never forget that an outfit isn’t finished until you add a pair of cute shoes and some accessories. While you could pair this outfit with a pair of menswear loafers, or really any shoe of your choice, I paired it with my go-to not too dressy, but not too casual booties. Along with this I added one ring and some light grey nail polish. Whether you’re wearing this outfit for a night out with the girls or to go take an exam that holds your grade’s fate, remember that maybe your outfit can’t solve all of your problems—but it’s a pretty great start.
