STYLE GURU STYLE: Classically Edgy

This season, I wanted to elevate my dressy casual style by trying to be a bit more edgy. Of course, I still want to be as classic as I can while trying out new things.

I drew inspiration for my new casual look from the Coach 1941 fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection. The entire collection has a dressy but laid-back feel. Almost all of the outfits were layered with a jacket or coat on top; bomber jackets, leather motorcycle jackets and even trench coats. There was an interesting use of fall tones and a few pops of color. I took a few elements from different looks in this collection for my look.

I like that the collection uses neutral colors with pops of blue and red, so I chose to wear a dark gray V-neck sweater, and a tan faux-suede A-line skirt (similar to looks 13,14 and 15). I wanted to make sure that I would have more neutral items so that my shoes would pop. I have always wanted a pair of blue suede shoes, so trust me when I say that I have been wearing a lot of neutrals just so that I can make these booties the star of my outfit.

There was also a few smooth leather motorcycle jackets in this collection and there is nothing more classic than an asymmetrical closure motorcycle jacket. I love picking up pieces that I can wear again and again, season after season. Every piece that I chose for this look can be worn again for the next few years. It’s all about matching classic pieces together, and styling them to look slightly edgier.

I accessorized this look with a leather backpack. I’m finding myself wearing a lot of different leather items recently, because I really can’t think of a more classic way to be edgy and casual at the same time. Leather is cool, seductive and stands the test of time. If you are looking for vegan leather, try a Matt & Nat bag. The backpack that I’m wearing was bought for me at Toronto’s One Of A Kind Show. It was handmade in Canada by designer Karen Gunna. I choose a blue gray color instead of black to make the bag stand out, and to make my outfit a bit more interesting. I also added a bit of myself with my “Picky” personalized bar of gold necklace.

Finally, I finished the look with a pop of red lipstick. What’s more classic than red lips?
