STYLE GURU STYLE: Classic '70s

As seen in Alice & Olivia’s fall 2016 runway show, the ’70s is alive and well in fashion right now, but that doesn’t mean you have to grow out your hair and grab the closest floral frock. Celebrities everywhere have started to embrace the “free spirit” vibe with bralettes as tops and long flowing dresses. My own personal style is more classic than the overall trend, so I took my own approach to the ’70s style. To simply incorporate this trend into your wardrobe, all you need is one statement piece. For my look, I chose a faux suede skirt to compliment my handbag. The key to trying new trends is to always stay true to your own personal style, and for me that means styling with simplicity in mind. I’m always referencing the classic saying “less is more” whenever I get ready in the morning, this way I stay true to my personal style.

This coming fall season, there are so many new trends to experiment with, but my number one rule is always staying true to what you’re comfortable wearing. Even if it is the hottest trend, if you cannot stand to walk in platform shoes, you don’t have to. Being stylish isn’t always about copying what you see in magazines, but instead making the trends your own. When making the ’70s trend my own, I put the dramatic skirt with one of my favorite white lace crop top, which made the outfit more “me.” You can easily make every trend your own by combining your own personal style, just like I just did in this look.
