STYLE GURU STYLE: Clash Is The New Class

I would like to start out by stating that whoever made up the “no white after Labor Day” rule was cruel and caused one too many wardrobe meltdowns for Fashionista’s everywhere during the fall and winter months. White is not only the most elegant color ever, it matches everything and I mean everything, including cream. Before you disregard everything I just said because everyone ever has told you that cream and white clash, hear me out.

Taking inspiration from the Dorothee Schumacher 2016 spring collection, I mismatched different color shades and patterns. Schumacher’s collection blends sophisticated patterns with eccentric prints while still maintaing a put-together look. Schumacher maintains the put-together look by carrying one color throughout the entire outfit. Many of the Spring looks mixed floral prints which is typical on the runway, however, a challenge to translate into everyday style.

I took on the challenge of mixing florals and combining white and cream with open arms, just as a Style Guru should. The key to mastering both of these concepts is to carry one specific color throughout your look. For this ensemble, I mixed cream and white by accessorizing with nudes which tied the entire look together. My shorts and top both had subtle floral designs which made for a more simplistic approach towards the looks featured in the Dorothee Schumacher collection.

No matter the season, don’t be afraid to mix patterns and colors. Even more importantly, don’t be afraid to wear white after labor day or mix cream and white because frankly, breaking rules is much more fun than following them.
