Sometimes I feel adventurous and, when that happens, I dress like Nicole Miller’s pre-fall 2014 collection. This is easily one of my favorite collections of the season. The deep blue and berry hues embody a romantic and carefree spirit. One of the distinguishing pieces in this collection which really stood out to me was the kimono. The kimono is a great way to help tie an outfit together in the most seamless way. It has been very popular this summer as it is a great lightweight option that does not trap heat.
In a similar fashion, I have chosen to wear my kimono and contrasted it with a blue patterned dress. To be honest, I would normally never wear different patterns all in one shot since I usually pair patterns with solids; I really stepped out of my comfort zone with this outfit. Contrasting different patterns can oftentimes be a tricky thing to pin down, especially since there is no exact science to it. However, accessories can really help to piece the outfit together, which is why I wore my gold waist belt. To tie back to the gold belt, I wore my gold eagle necklace. The metallic shine in these details helps to add dimension to the outfit and tie any loose ends.
As a New Yorker, it is in my nature to add a bold and rugged touch to most of my outfits (they don’t call it the concrete jungle for nothing). To achieve this effect, I wore my classic combat boots. The reason why I love these boots so much is because of their worn and weathered look. To incorporate the key Nicole Miller plaid which I could not dare forget, I wore my mini plaid backpack. This backpack is the equivalent of the Cinderella slipper fit because it is perfect in size to carry all necessities, but also light enough to barely notice it’s there.
I dare you to try this Nicole Miller inspired look out. Mix those patterns and dare to be bold!
