STYLE GURU STYLE: Chic With Faux Furs

November 11th, 2015 at 2:00am

Well Fashionistas/os, it’s that time of year, fall is officially here along with everything we love about it. The classic pumpkin spice lattes, the array of colored leaves falling from the tress and lots of layers! With the beginning of November, we are starting to see winter creeping into the mornings with chilling winds and frosty car windows, which promises the holiday season shortly ahead. Those holiday parties are some of the best times to look put together and fashionable. As soon as fall begins is when black becomes an everyday statement in my outfits along with layers upon layers! It leaves you always looking put together and ready for whatever comes your way.

My inspiration for this look came from Elizabeth and James fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. There were pops of color here and there in the line but for the most part they stuck to a mostly black color scheme. They incorporated a lot of detail pieces such as faux furs, fringe and knee-high boots. After seeing fur in almost every ready-to-wear collection for fall, I figured I should incorporate this trend into my outfit. A faux fur vest or jacket is an easy way to take a simple outfit to the next level. It adds a pop of color or texture as well as adding a level of sassiness that’ll make you feel like you own the runway (aka, the hallways you walk through on the way to class). So for this outfit, I decided to stick to the classic all-black outfit but added a little bit of color with the fur vest. A vest is so versatile with all the colors in it that you can wear it with almost any color you please. Since I don’t own a pair of black knee-high boots, I took a pair of black knee-high socks and paired them with some simple black booties. If you don’t own a pair you should definitely pick some up because I think I wear these almost every day in the fall and winter.

With my everyday style, I usually tend to stick to a neutral color scheme and very simple outfits that I can add different textures or statement pieces to in order to make it my own. My advice for you would be try something new that might not be quite in your comfort zone, if a faux fur coat is not something you think you could pull off, give it a try, you might just surprise yourself. Those sidewalks and hallways are your runway, make it known that you are a true Fashionista/o.
