STYLE GURU STYLE: Chic Street

What I love most about a minimalistic style is its ability to be timeless. Regardless of particular trends, pairing basic pieces is always chic. While it is nice to go for a fab new trend, there is nothing better than sticking to neutral tones and classic pieces.

This minimalistic style, combined with a bit of color, was what inspired my look from The Row pre-fall 2015 collection. What interested me most in this collection was the inspiration from ’60s and ’70s California surf references. I also found it cool that their designs were not based around traditional palm tree patterns. They continued to design pieces consistently with what they are known for: neutral tones and, of course, sportswear.

As I have said before, certain classic staple pieces will always be timeless in one’s wardrobe. I tried to combine pieces that would symbolize my style but yet somehow incorporate some of their inspired pieces as well. Although skinny jeans have been on- trend for quite some time, white bottoms have been a classic for decades, as well as simple black sandals.

For the top portion, I decided to go with a crew neck muscle tank top that is a beautiful wine color for the fall. Liking a bit of contrast, I went with white skinny jeans, which were inspired by The Row. For my shoes, I couldn’t resist the black slide sandal. To add to this look, I chose a taupe colored bag to stick with the overall neutral theme of the outfit. As far as accessories go, The Row didn’t seem to have any shown in their collection, but I wanted to add a bit of my own style to the look. So, I included my favorite dainty necklace and my black eyeglasses for extra fun. This look would be perfect for walking around campus in the fall, going on a lunch date or even touring a new city.

Even though I didn’t match exact colors like The Row did, I felt that this look still symbolized how you can take a couple pieces from a runway trend and create something of your own. These pieces come together to form an overall outfit that screams American sportswear with a chic twist.
