STYLE GURU STYLE: Channeling Clover Canyon

Having been in Palm Beach, Florida during winter break, I decided to take advantage of the warm weather and throw it back to channel Clover Canyon’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. This season’s looks entailed a great deal of variation in light blues compared to that of black back drops in its patterns. Many of the pieces were paired with another major solid part in the wardrobe, making the assortment of patterns easier to wear when not on the runway. The designs implemented are unique enough that they are difficult to replicate, which is one of the reasons I was determined to create a similar look of my own.

Up for the challenge, I decided to take the season’s look and incorporate my own style to make it more personal. My main focus was conveying a solid piece in comparison to that of a patterned one found in many of the looks from the collection. To do this, I turned to the skirt shown, as it is the main attention grabber in this outfit. Though I found it while boutique shopping in Bangkok, Thailand, a similar skirt can be found in the Clover Canyon fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection that I got my inspiration from.

I decided to pair the skirt with a chambray shirt to tone down the look. This is a classic piece that should be a part of everyone’s wardrobe. It can also be worn several different ways, as seen here with rolled up sleeves and a knot in the front. To make the look more original, I put on a pair of Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses. Wearing these helped the transition into the Florida sun, while also making the outfit more noticeable.

Finishing off the outfit, I decided to slip on a pair of Sperry Top-Siders, as they truly show the preppy side of my style. I also chose a Michael Kors watch, as nobody should ever leave the house without a fashionable timepiece. If you are looking to make this ensemble more practical, pair a solid pencil skirt with a cute top. A great example of this can be found on J.Crew’s website, as columbier skirts are totally in this season.

Get My Look: 1. Classic chambray shirt. 2. Show stopping skirt. 3. Sassy sunglasses.
