STYLE GURU STYLE: Casual Coolness

After watching the Alexander Wang show on Vogue.com, I loved the way he mixed textures of leathers, soft cotton jerseys and denim and I knew I wanted to try it for myself. Through his designs he created this persona of someone who looks cool while still looking effortless. I wanted to try this out for myself and rock that casual cool look that Alexander Wang executed so well in his spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection.

Wearing my Cubs hat that day was a must. It was game four of the playoffs between the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals. Since I couldn’t be home for this, I knew I would feel better wearing my hat around campus all day, so I decided to style my outfit around it. It also helped set the tone for the rest of the outfit.

One of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe is this simple cotton gray dress that is short in the front and longer in the back. It helps give off this sense of easiness and is so ridiculously comfortable that I could not resist wearing it. This dress did take this look up a notch but paired with my denim button-down shirt helped keep this outfit on the casual side. The denim shirt also came in handy for when the wind picked up and it became cold while walking to class.

To dress this look up just a bit, I decided to wear my favorite heeled black booties. They help add shine and edge to any outfit with their patent leather material and their exposed zippers on the side. From there I knew I wanted to wear my cozy knee-high socks to add another dimension to the outfit and play with the hem of the dress. These cozy socks kept my legs warm and my outfit looking fabulous.

To finish off this look I added a necklace that had a long gold chain, is knotted at the bottom and holds a blue stony gem. The blue correlated with the blue in the hat and the denim shirt. Also, this necklace gave the perfect finishing touch to help give this outfit the perfect balance between casual and cool.

Get My Look: 1. A sleeveless dress. 2. A denim button-down shirt. 3. Patent leather black booties.
