STYLE GURU STYLE: Burnt Orange

This season’s ready-to-wear collections took traditional styles from the Middle East and Europe and brought it to a girl in small town Tuscaloosa. Bohemian vibes and an overdose of denim have taken over the runway. One of my favorite collections was from this season’s Chloé show, directed by Clare Waight Keller. A collection such as this one embodies the image of a free-spirited girl who longs to get away every so often to the beaches of Spain and Morocco.

This collection (as well as my wallet) impelled me to experiment with what was already in my closet. By coincidence, I had a perfect top, which I recently bought at my local Goodwill store only a few weeks ago. The shirt I found was a burnt orange, lightweight turtleneck with a color that resembled a model’s pleated dress. The temperature wasn’t too unbearable today, so I was able to pull off this shirt with ease. I love how this color contrasts with the usual pastels and earth tones. This collection had only this dress and a pair of shorts in this color of orange, yet these were the pieces that managed to catch my eye the most.

I also loved how the collection featured many pieces with dark washed denim, a fabric that I think goes well with this orange. With that in mind, I paired my orange top with a pair of dark wash skinny jeans. To pull the look together even more, I finished the outfit with a pair of gold, geometric earrings and wrapped my scarf around for a turban effect. Finally, to keep things casual and ready for the first day of summer classes, I threw on a pair of comfortable, all-black Vans and a small black shoulder bag.

This spring/summer 2015 collection inspired me to bring more fun and unusual colors into my outfits. Bold contrasting colors like that of the burnt orange and indigo exude a sense of happiness and confidence and makes me long for what summer 2015 has to offer.

Get My Look: 1. A burnt orange blouse. 2. A pair of dark wash skinny jeans. 3. Gold statement earrings.
